Genesis has created an exclusive edition of the GV80 SUV, named “Desert Edition“, to celebrate the 80th birthday of Jacky Ickx, the 1983 Dakar Rally winner and brand ambassador.
In addition to being an homage, Ickx also contributes as a consultant in the development of future Genesis models, including the new high-performance Magma lineup.
Inspired by vehicles like the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato, the “Desert Edition” is designed to enhance off-road performance. This special edition has received modifications to its suspension and wheel arches, along with 20-inch forged wheels fitted with all-terrain tires. The model also features a roof rack equipped with LED lighting and an interior adapted with emergency supplies and equipment.
Although a unique project, the GV80 “Desert Edition” reflects Genesis’s growing interest in motorsport, particularly with the Magma series and its entry into the WEC Hypercar category. This suggests that the brand might even compete in the legendary Dakar Rally in the future.
